FSU-SMU Game Resumes After Nearly Two-Hour Power Outage

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV)** — Florida State eventually took the field against SMU on Monday night after a nearly two-hour delay caused by a power outage at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m., but the outage pushed the start time back to approximately 9:15 p.m.

According to WCTV’s Alison Posey, the stadium initially had only enough power to restore the field lights. As the game progressed, however, additional systems gradually came back online, including the public-address system and stadium music.

Florida State Athletics issued a statement around 8:30 p.m. Monday regarding the outage at Doak Campbell Stadium.

“Technical staff are addressing a power disruption to the west side tower due to an electrical short in the main transformer. Electricians are working to restore the power service. The game remains suspended. There will be another update soon.”

The power failure occurred shortly before the scheduled kickoff and left players, coaches and fans waiting as crews worked to restore service.

The City of Tallahassee’s Power Outage Map, as of 8:45 p.m. Monday, showed only one active outage in the city. According to the map, the outage began at approximately 6:41 p.m., with an estimated restoration time of 9:26 p.m.

Despite the unusual circumstances, the game ultimately resumed at 9:15 p.m., allowing Florida State and SMU to proceed with their scheduled matchup.
