Injury Notes: Pages, O’Hearn, Helsley and Pena

Andy Pages appears to be making encouraging progress in his recovery from a fractured left hand. The Dodgers outfielder suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch from Bubba Chandler in August, but he told _The Athletic’s_ Fabian Ardaya that he has already resumed hitting off a tee and is no longer experiencing discomfort in his hand.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also told _SportsNet LA_ and other reporters that Pages “is coming quickly” in his recovery. The outfielder could continue his rehabilitation work at the Dodgers’ spring training complex or potentially begin a minor league rehab assignment during the team’s upcoming road trip, which starts Friday.

Pages underwent minor surgery on his hand shortly after the injury and now appears to be on track to meet — or possibly beat — his initial estimated recovery timeline of four to five weeks. Ideally, the Dodgers would like to have him back before the end of the regular season so he can regain his timing and eliminate any rust. However, the primary objective is to make sure Pages is fully healthy and ready for the postseason.

Here’s a look at several other notable injury situations from around Major League Baseball:

Ryan O’Hearn

Ryan O’Hearn is expected to begin a Triple-A rehabilitation assignment Tuesday, according to multiple Pirates beat writers.

O’Hearn has been sidelined since July 31 with a left quad strain, becoming one of several key Pittsburgh hitters to miss time during the Pirates’ push for a playoff spot. Nearly everyone else has now returned to health, with O’Hearn and Endy Rodríguez among the remaining exceptions.

However, Pittsburgh faces an uphill battle in the Wild Card race, trailing by 5.5 games. O’Hearn has posted a .270/.334/.454 slash line with 17 home runs over 398 plate appearances during his first season under a two-year, $29 million free-agent contract.

### Ryan Helsley

The Baltimore Orioles have moved within three games of the Cleveland Guardians following Monday’s victory, keeping their Wild Card hopes alive. Whether Ryan Helsley can contribute with a late-season return remains uncertain.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz told reporters, including MLB.com’s Jake Rill, that Helsley is scheduled to throw a live batting-practice session Tuesday or Wednesday.

The veteran closer has appeared in just 15⅓ innings this season because of recurring elbow problems. His second stint on the injured list has lasted since June 30.

If Helsley responds well to the live batting-practice session and subsequently begins a minor league rehab assignment, he could potentially be ready for activation from the 60-day injured list in roughly a week.

Luis Pena

Milwaukee Brewers prospect Luis Pena suffered a fractured left fibula Saturday and had to be carted off the field after sustaining the injury while sliding into third base during a stolen-base attempt.

According to JR Radcliffe of the _Milwaukee Journal Sentinel_, Pena is expected to begin rehabilitation this week. He is currently using crutches and has his left leg immobilized in a splint.

Pena made the jump from High-A to Double-A for the first time in 2026. Despite hitting .296/.380/.415 with 292 total plate appearances across the season, his playing time was limited by several absences, including a dehydration incident, hamstring issues and, most recently, the fractured fibula.

Pena remains widely regarded as one of the top prospects in baseball. His shortened 2026 season could cause his position on next year’s top-100 prospect lists to slip somewhat, but he is still viewed as an important part of Milwaukee’s long-term future.

Pena was also reportedly included in trade discussions at the deadline as part of a potential package for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Despite the injury setback, the Brewers continue to view the young infielder as a significant piece of their future.
